Ethics & Morals of Design: create something free of the manipulative patterns baked into most everyday apps. Our initial research, pulled from peer-reviewed literature, showed that almost nothing existed for people navigating conception struggles, IVF, or child loss.

My team built this concept map to to lay out the full feature landscape, organized around the carrying partner, the non-carrying partner, and the relationship between them. We used affinity mapping to sort early ideas into immediate needs versus future features.

With the direction narrowed, we moved from sketches to a prototype, building out the core flows for both partners through tracking, connection, and support.

We were interested in the efficiency of interaction flows, which were tested via card sorting. In 10 rounds of moderated usability sessions, we found:

In an A/B test of a dark, moody theme against a light one, close to 1/3 of participants preferred the dark version, finding it more personal; and in testing information-dense screens against longer, more spaced-out layouts, 9 of 10 participants preferred the latter.

With testing complete and the academic quarter coming to a close, I took the concept into Figma to solidify the actual visual direction, applying our findings to the system layouts and component language before handing any of it to code.

From there, I moved my Figma specs into Claude Code.

The result is Lighthouse: a fully built React Native app spanning 30+ screens covering onboarding, dual-role tracking, partner connection, and education.

Carrying and non-carrying partners get tailored tracking for cycle, hormone, and symptom data on one side, lifestyle and environmental factors on the other. This is complete with unified check-ins, an IVF treatment timeline, and AI-generated daily insights.
